Tenth Anniversary

Updated: May 20, 2021

It is hard to believe The Faceoff is 10 years old. When I started this site, it was mostly just to show off a few of my graphics that I had created. I never believed it would turn into what it is today.

This site started out as a small blogger site called "DTC's Painted Ice". I didn't spend much time on a name because it didn't feel like a big deal at the time. Thanks to some positive feedback about the images I had uploaded, I decided to create ice graphics for each team in the NHL. The graphics were lacking in quality and accuracy. At that time, I hardly noticed that teams changed their red lines from season to season. Once every ice was uploaded, I decided to give the site a proper name, and Frozen Faceoff was born.

Over the years, the ice graphics would see many revisions and eventually became full rink graphics. The site name changed once more so we would no longer share a name with the NCAA tournament.

I would like to take a moment to thank some people who have contributed to our site.

  • NHL Horns & Songs, N2B (Alex), and Famous Goal Horns who have been goal horn partners over the years.

  • Dryve (Ryan) for turning our 2D graphics into incredible 3D Scoreboards renderings.

  • Our original ice research team (CF92 and Cory Gibson) who spent several of our early years working to ensure the highest attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Last but not least, you, our fans who have been supportive and helpful with their contributions to our quest to archive as many center ice designs as possible.

Throughout this month we will take a look at how the ice designs have progressed over time and we will also be celebrating with a look at some exciting updates to the site. Keep checking back throughout the month and follow us on Twitter for all the latest.
