- Arena UpdatesIn General Discussion·September 19, 2022Taking a look at some of the arena news around the hockey world as we gear up for a new season. Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence (home of the AHL's Providence Bruins) is now Amica Mutual Pavilion. The old signage has come off of the arena exterior and the center-hung scoreboard. We are waiting to see what the new name will look like at center ice. SAP Center at San Jose (Home of the NHL Sharks) is getting a brand new scoreboard. It is currently under construction. Crypto.com Arena (Home of the NHL Kings) is getting some upgrades, but no new scoreboard yet.0082

- TD Garden Scoreboard UpdatesIn General DiscussionSeptember 29, 2021The improvement to the centerhung takes the 2.5-millimeter technology installed in 2019 and expands the digital footprint of all four displays to measure 18 feet high by 32.5 feet wide. Four new underbelly video displays were also added to the centerhung configuration to cater to fans sitting closer to the action. Each underbelly display measures 6.5 feet high by 23 feet wide and features 2.9-millimeter pixel spacing. Above the 4K video boards, two new ring displays were installed on their own hoist system to allow them to be raised and lowered for the needs of the many events held at the venue. These displays each measure 3.5 feet high 179 feet in circumference and feature 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing. https://www.daktronics.com/news/centerhung-at-td-garden-gets-sizable-upgrade-from-daktronics00
- Moncton Wildcats 25th AnniversaryIn General Discussion·June 29, 2021The Wildcats have revealed their 25th Anniversary logo as you can find on SportsLogos.net. So here is what it would look like at center ice if they choose to use it. For the most part, it feels like a logo that was built for center ice, though its hard to see so much of a primary logo get covered up by the red line with the logo is that small already.0059
- TD Scoreboard ConceptIn General Discussion·July 2, 2021A couple years ago, someone made new Boston Garden concept that included a scoreboard similar to the Garden HDX, but with much larger screens. At the time, it seemed plausable that the Bruins my go that route with their new board as they only took off part of the LEDs from the structure. We thought it would be fun to take a look back at that concept board even though we now know an entirely new board is on its way. (More photos in link)00101
- New Scoreboard RankingsIn General Discussion·July 13, 2021We have added a new way to view NHL scoreboards. Now you can see them ranked based on their age. Now this is a bit tricky since we have many versions of some scoreboards, accounting for things such as arena name changes or other minor alterations. We are using the most recent version of each overall structure, but the age is based on the playoff year that the scoreboard was first used. (Not when that altered version was first used.) https://www.thefaceoff.net/scoreboards-by-age0086
- New Logo for Portland WinterhawksIn General Discussion·July 14, 2021I really like this logo and it will look even better at center ice!00104
- Authentic Rinks with AdsIn General Discussion·July 28, 2021I have fought it for years, but it is one of the most requested things we hear from our visitors. Therefore, I wanted to let all of you know first, that I do plan to start adding authentic ice advertisements to our archive. I am still working out how that will work. What I can share is that it will be NHL only. There are just too many ad placements in other leagues, and not nearly enough reference photos/videos to accurately recreate them. Some teams have been known to change out their in-ice ads in the middle of the season, and this is now commonly done for the playoffs when the league puts in their league wide ads. We will only cover one set of advertisements per season. With some older ices, the advertisements sometimes got pretty close to the center ice circle. This means that some ads might fall within our square thumbnail images that focus solely on the center ice area. We do plan to include those ads in our thumbnails, but will only use the most recent set of ads that fall under that center ice design. It is important that we maintain a well organized archive that still focuses primarily on the center ice designs, but having ads on the ice should give a better feel of how the ice rinks look in real life. We will try to get the advertisements as accurate as possible, but please understand some ads may be pretty tough to find or recreate, particularly older advertisements. Here are just a few teasers. This will be a long process and I haven't decided when I will start to add these to the archive just yet. I will let you guys know when I start adding them!0050
- What if...In General Discussion·November 22, 2021The Madison Square Garden got renamed into the "Jollibee SuperCenter"00100
- Opinions on the Kings Center IceIn General Discussion·December 29, 2021I know there are not many people that like the new name, but how does everyone feel about how it was incorporated at center ice. I like how they went smaller and used four word marks as opposed to the concept we made previously. It gives a cleaner look than even the Staples Center word mark.0052
- Iowa HeartlandersIn General DiscussionJuly 3, 2021I see No. 1 over No. 2. But hey, the ECHL is a funny league, so they could go with 2.00
