This ice was used up until the tragic bus crash on April 6, 2018 which claimed the lives of 16 people, and injured 13 others. Most of the deceased and injured were players from the Humbolt Broncos.

Elgar Petersen Arena is an ice hockey venue in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. It has a seating capacity of 1,900. It is the home ice for the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. It is named after Elgar Petersen who has been a volunteer with the team since their inception in the late 60's. Petersen was inducted into the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in the grassroots category in 2015. Mr. Petersen passed away on November 3, 2018.

On April 8, 2018 the arena was the setting for a memorial service honouring the lives of sixteen people killed in a bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos team on April 6th while traveling to a playoff game in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. On September 12, 2018 the arena was site of an emotional ceremony televised in the nationwide in Canada and the United States that honoured those killed and injured in the crash.
