Probably the laziest ice layout in the NHL.(https://twitter.com/hashtag/NHL?src=hashtag_click) I know the red line is annoying, but it's required so that's that. Imagine being so lazy that you don't even make the slightest modification to your logo to read properly. "WASHING ON cap tals". Just use the 'Weagle'.(https://www.thefaceoff.net/concepts/4b5fbd87-bc1c-4c53-87f4-02556cb136f7)

Friday morning the arena flooded due to a water main break right outside the building. Water entered into the main concourse and drained into the event level below damaging ceilings and walls. Several inches of water were throughout much of the lower level. Here are some photos from a video released by the Predators. The Predators will return to action in Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday night.

For the past 7 seasons, the ECHL has had a deal with Geico as the official goal post advertiser. All goal posts have been painted blue and Geico logos have been added to the posts. This deal seems to have quietly ended going into this season. We do not know if that was the end of the signed deal, or if it was terminated early. Some teams have already painted their goal posts back to red, while others are leaving them blue, but without the Geico decals. We are trying to remain accurate with these in our center ice archive. You will notice that some teams in our archive this season have red goal posts and others have blue.

There are a handful of teams that have this awful company on the ice. They are a huge sponsor for the league, but they are also responsible for scamming millions of fans of various sporting and music events every year.

After years of using an outdated primary logo at center ice, the Edmonton Oilers finally got a new in-lay logo with the new color scheme being used this season. It appears to be slightly larger, nearly filling up the center circle. @_TheRinks pointed out that they must have had some trouble with the install. As you can see in the photo below, as well as our recreation of the center ice, the logo is practically touching the circle on the top and bottom while having more of a white gap on the sides. Maybe they will have better luck with the install next season, but the logo looks better at center ice in the new darker colors.

Taking a look at some of the arena news around the hockey world as we gear up for a new season. Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence (home of the AHL's Providence Bruins) is now Amica Mutual Pavilion. The old signage has come off of the arena exterior and the center-hung scoreboard. We are waiting to see what the new name will look like at center ice. SAP Center at San Jose (Home of the NHL Sharks) is getting a brand new scoreboard. It is currently under construction. Crypto.com Arena (Home of the NHL Kings) is getting some upgrades, but no new scoreboard yet.

We have had our first look at NHL 23, though there has not been much to see yet. Here is what we have noticed so far from the screenshots and video of the game. The new scoreboard for Washington is in the game. They did not update the seat color to black, or add any of the extra LED screens that were also installed the same season as the scoreboard though. EA has stated that they have authentic on-ice projections for NHL teams this season. Does that mean all teams? Probably not. I don't know that all teams use projections. We can see that Colorado has their intro projection in the game though. Hopefully more screenshots and video will be released in the next few days.

We know that both logos will be featured in some capacity. The arena was recently named Mullett Arena. Most college rinks do not have much advertising on them, so it will be interesting to see what they do with in-ice ads.

According to SportsLogos.net, the Oilers changed their color scheme on their logo back in 2017. For some reason, the ice crew has yet to notice this detail though when it comes to the center ice logo. So here is what the center ice SHOULD look like if they used the current logo colors. Do you think they should update to match, or is this change too small of a detail to really notice?

One possibility the NHL has mentioned for the soon-to-be homeless NHL club is that they might play at Chase Field. Here is a look at what that might look like on ice. It is weird putting the word "Field" on an ice surface.

I know there are not many people that like the new name, but how does everyone feel about how it was incorporated at center ice. I like how they went smaller and used four word marks as opposed to the concept we made previously. It gives a cleaner look than even the Staples Center word mark.

What was once a "lifetime naming rights deal" is has now been killed off and replaced by Crypto.com in a 20 year, 700 million dollar deal. It is now clear that the Los Angeles Kings were aware of the potential deal as early as August as they painted their ice. We had tweeted about how the ice was missing the Staples Center text when it was first painted. They would go on to paint the text on a higher layer of the ice than the rest of the markings. Now it is clear, they did this so they could easily changed out the text for the new arena name when the new deal takes effect on December 25, 2021. We will work on a center ice concept for the new name later this evening.

We may have gotten to see the future center ice of the Kraken thanks to the NHL 22 reveal video. EA Canada often gets advanced notice of center ice designs. Take last season for example. They leaked the Vegas Golden Knights center ice even though they were not supposed to. I am sure they are not getting advanced noticed from them this season. So its possible they just took a guess as to what the ice would look like, but it is also possible that this is the real deal. After all, this is not a design we have seen on any previous renderings. If they were just guessing, one would think they would have used a layout from previous renderings. This is a pretty clean look for the ice which is fitting for the theme of the arena name. What do you all think of this ice?

With today's announcement by the NHL that ads will appear on jerseys, it is almost certain that in the not-so-distant future, the ice rinks will be covered by ads just like many minor leagues are today. I would fully expect to see something like this. Maybe even worse.

As we begin the mighty task of adding authentic in-ice advertisements to our rinks to make them as authentic as possible, I wanted to keep you all up to speed on which teams have the new, authentic graphics. For more information on this project, please check out this blog post. Update 9/19/21: All NHL teams now have ads on rinks.

I have fought it for years, but it is one of the most requested things we hear from our visitors. Therefore, I wanted to let all of you know first, that I do plan to start adding authentic ice advertisements to our archive. I am still working out how that will work. What I can share is that it will be NHL only. There are just too many ad placements in other leagues, and not nearly enough reference photos/videos to accurately recreate them. Some teams have been known to change out their in-ice ads in the middle of the season, and this is now commonly done for the playoffs when the league puts in their league wide ads. We will only cover one set of advertisements per season. With some older ices, the advertisements sometimes got pretty close to the center ice circle. This means that some ads might fall within our square thumbnail images that focus solely on the center ice area. We do plan to include those ads in our thumbnails, but will only use the most recent set of ads that fall under that center ice design. It is important that we maintain a well organized archive that still focuses primarily on the center ice designs, but having ads on the ice should give a better feel of how the ice rinks look in real life. We will try to get the advertisements as accurate as possible, but please understand some ads may be pretty tough to find or recreate, particularly older advertisements. Here are just a few teasers. This will be a long process and I haven't decided when I will start to add these to the archive just yet. I will let you guys know when I start adding them!
